I have been so very lucky to be taking the most wonderful Shakespeare class this school year. I believe it was fate that there was only one opening in the class and that it was meant for me.
In my class we are challenged to watch and listen and read 17 Shakespeare plays. So far I have watched and read Hamlet' A Midsummer Nights Dream' Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo and Juliet. Hamlet was HILARIOUS! Even though it's supposed to be a tragedy it's now a comedy! First Ophelia drowned singing songs then Queen Gertrude was poisoned then King Claudius died getting stabbed one million times by Hamlet then Laertes got cut on the wrist by a poisoned sword and died and last but not least Hamlet died... for no apparent reason. A Midsummer Nights Dream and Much Ado About Nothing were funny as well but that's obvious because they are (hello) comedies. Romeo and Juliet was as laugh worthy as any of the other plays. My favorite part was when Juliet stabbed herself at the end of the movie and blood was very cheesily squirting out of her chest.
We are studying Julius Caesar this year. We didn't have any writing or reading assignments the first week of class but on our second week of class we had to read Act 1 Sc. 1-2. My reading assignments are opinion papers. The question for my paper my second week of class was... In your opinion what makes a great leader? Give an example from your life. Here is my paper if you would like to read it.
What Makes a Great Leader?
Being able to speak well in front of a crowd.
Being able to see what needs to happen and what needs to be done to get there.
Being able to be straightforward in a good way like saying what needs to be said.
Having a good reason for people to follow him/her and wanting to be heard.
Hitler was a powerful (but not great) leader.
He thought he had a good reason to be heard and so did others. So people listened. But he was not a good leader. His followers were not getting the whole story of what he was doing because he controlled the flow of information. He was only powerful because he had the power of persuasion and he used that power for evil.
My Mother is a great leader because she has all the qualities I wrote about and all the qualities the best Mother on earth needs.
I know these qualities make a great leader.
That was my very first opinion paper I hope you liked it. For those who don't know me personally I am home schooled and for all my friends who are reading this I love ya! See you soon!
Question- What video's are you watching? Because they aren't 100% correct. And they also sound very interesting/funny/cheesy. Just as a suggestion, BBC so far has provided my favorite renditions of Shakespeare. Also, make sure you look up summaries of the plays before you watch them. There are three that I would highly suggest you not watch (however, I can't seem to remember there names right now.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, enjoy your class and thanks for inviting me to your blog!
Great post. I love to watch and read alongside you. It's a great reminder for me.
ReplyDeleteCarson, I know that one of the plays you are thinking of is Titus Andronicus. Some of the things she is talking about in this post are just her humorous renditions. We've been watching mostly BBC.
